Autumn impressions

The month of November is starting on a high note, I love it! As the days will most certainly become darker and duller quite soon let´s take in all the splendour of the autumn season, enjoy the magnificient colours of mother nature and take long walks out into the fields and forests. It´s absolutely worth it!

I have not been idle these past weeks and hand painted new batches of my English Leicester curly fleeces, some Bluefaced Leicester curly fleece, I carded more super fine 18 micron merino-silk batts (gorgeously soft!!!!), and my 20 colour merino roving bags (24/6 micron) are fully stocked again. They weigh a whopping 255g (9oz) per bag and are perfect for felting projects, handspinning and dolls hair – very handy for beginners in felting and spinning as well. The fibre bags are displayed in my etsy store

The curls are absolutely gorgeous and perfect for needle/wet felting, dolls hair, handspinning art yarns, hand dyeing and for embellishig/sewing.  :o)

Fleece update

Just a quick update on what´s now available in my online stores, wensleydale fleece wise. There is still a good 25lbs of raw fleece to be washed and sorted. There will be less natural black fleece available than I thought, as the majority of the black wool has turned out to be a dark silver grey – yep, that can happen too. :o) If you have a very greasy black fleece there is no way of telling whether it will remain black/dark brown, or if it will turn into a grey beauty. The wool is first class, truly. I am very happy with the quality and the curls, most of them are just not black…..  Hopefully there will be another natural black fleece arriving later on this year with a last bulk around October, let´s wait and see. Here are my natural colour and handpainted wensleydale beauties that I have distributed in my DaWanda shop (prices in Euros), and my etsy store (prices in US$):

Greasy Beauty

All 50 lbs of Bluefaced Leicester curly fleece have been washed and sorted, this is the last lot drying on the rack. It is reserved as I am working off a list of requests, but I have got plenty in stock left for handpainted batches to go into my online stores…

…and I am seamlessly moving on to a 55lbs bulk of raw wensleydale fleece that arrived yesterday – thank god the weather has turned much cooler today, and the first 15 pounds of wensleydale fleece are already soaking in the buckets. There will be an absolutely stunning natural black wensleydale shearling fleece, plenty of natural white shearling fleece with very good medium length curls, and a very curly natural dark grey wensleydale fleece. I am truly pleased with this year´s clip. The shearling babies are, as always, heavily in the grease, they will require a strong double wash. Please bear with me, I will be washing as fast as I can. :o)

First summer clip

I finally received my first bulk of this year´s freshly clipped Bluefaced Leicester fleeces and have been digging my hands into them to get 50lbs of raw curly wool handwashed and sorted as quickly as possible, so I will be able to smoothly move onto the new bulk of fresh wensleydale raw fleeces I am expecting in August. I am also hoping to get some premium English Leicester curly fleece, yummy stuff!  Summer time is always a very busy time for me, I never stop washing, sorting and painting fleeces. I will have to raise my fleece prices this year, I´m afraid. The BFL fleeces are now on the same price level as wensleydale fleece at the global wool auction. Its wool price has risen an absolutely incredible 700% since 2007.

Here are some photos of the first new handpainted BFL fleeces, and some more Merino and Polwarth hand painted wool rovings/combed tops that I have distributed in my etsy store, ebayUK store, and my DaWanda store :

Fresh colours and fibres, and Monster High dolls

I am so waiting for spring to arrive, I am desperate for warm sunshine and blue sky, sick of snow, ice and mud. It may not take long anymore now, the birds are already in spring mode, their chirping contests are absolutely fabulous, I love when they have a party in the forest and in the open fields. During the month of February I have been restocking my handpainted and handspun merino slub yarns, batts and rovings. I have also added new lots of handpainted and commercially dyed merino rovings in gorgeous and vibrant colours, handpainted british bluefaced leicester and wensleydale fleece, plus a new merino lace and a 70-15-15 wool-silk-bamboo yarn that I have called “Thuja” + “Embers”. As always these yarns and fibre babies can be found in my etsy store and ebayUK store.

In this blog I would also like to introduce Sindy, a dollmaker from Sweden, who works with funky and very beautiful Monster High Dolls. For the dolls hair she often uses my curly wensleydale fleeces, bluefaced leicester fleece, single colour merino and rainbow merino wool rovings to create fantastic hairstyles, here are some of her sweeties:

She really does a marvelous job on the hair-dos. She also sells these sweet little creatures, and you can follow Sindy through her blog “Das Leben des Menschen”. Feel free to visit her site, she updates it on a regular basis.

The fibers and fleeces are available through my ebayUK store and my etsy store.

Everyone have a very good weekend, and HAPPY FIBRE CRAFTING! :o)

It’s fleece time again :o)

Freshly clipped fleeces have been arriving on a weekly basis since my last blog,  and they all needed washing and sorting, but I am half way through the bulk,  I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel :o) So far I have got gorgeously soft British Bluefaced Leicester, beautiful Bluefaced Leicester/Kerry Hill cross with great sheen, and some very high quality English Leicester curly fleece (1 champion with curls of up to 35cm = 14 inch!!!!!, plus  1 very clean curly fleece beauty from a 2 year old ewe).

Some of the fleece wool I have already handpainted for all who want to use the curls for felting, embellishment, dollshair, and handspinning – they are displayed in my etsy store.  However, not all of these fleeces are suitable for handspinning, the fleece base may be too dense, but I have mentioned that in each item description.  Here are my natural colour and handpainted fleece beauties:

And last but not least some more of my German royal baby alpaca handpainted fleece, also available through my etsy store as a mixed bag of 4 colours. The wool is a mere 17 micron,  as soft as a cloud of whipped cream!!

Freshly clipped British wensleydale fleece should be back in stock around mid/end September.

Not all of my washed undyed fleeces are regularly listed in my online stores, as there is only a limitied quantity available each year, and I keep a waiting list once the raw fleeces have been inspected.  Inquiries are welcome through my website Needlework’s Pleasure.

Everyone have a very fine weekend and HAPPY FIBER CRAFTING :o)

TRIPLE COFFEE YARN

It has taken me forever but I have finally finished my latest handspun lace yarn design,  a 50/50 British bluefaced leicester/silk, that I have called “Triple Coffee”. It has got much more yardage than I estimated earlier, 1133 yards in one skein of 4oz. , and the total working time for this baby was a whopping 26 hours.  I am very pleased with this yarn. :o) The first photo shows the single handspun cobweb thread prior to plying, and the second photo shows the plied thread (it’s a bit blurry, sorry). The wpi measures 25-27.

“Triple Coffee” is now displayed in my etsy store. I think I will take some time off lace spinning and make a  nice chunky wooly yarn for a change. :o)
