Dear Spring, WELCOME!

Here comes my April/May update of fresh fibers and yarns that are listed in my etsy store and ebayUK store:
A handspun self striping merino yarn has come to life, with beautiful vibrant spring colours, and 2 skeins of handspun wensleydale yarn “Curly Tales” in natural white have made it off the bobbins.

A new batch of super soft hand painted merino rovings in rich and vibrant rainbow colours in single segments so the strands can be handspun into a self striping yarn very easily without having to sort the colours first. The rovings are also perfect for nuno, wet and needle felting projects.

All 25 shades of my super soft 20 micron merino wool rovings are restocked in 3.5oz (100g) braids, including leaf green, berry red, and pitch black.

I drum carded 1lb of super fine 18 micron merino batts in pitch black, blended with stunning bronze mulberry silk….gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous.

All standard colourways of my handspun and handpainted merino thick and thin yarns are also restocked, including “Element”, “Reds” and “Savannah”. I made tons of these babies this month…I think I will take a serious thick and thin break for a while. :o)

Fleece wise I sorted several 1oz bags of lovely clean natural white long wensleydale curls, and hand painted long wensleydale curls in rich auburn-mahogany. The curls will make beautiful long dolls hair. They can also be tailspun, or incorporated into any felting project for extra texture.

Last but not least, 2 new shades of pure mulberry silk roving are listed in my etsy store, a light pink and a golden brown, both shades are stunning! The average staple length of my silk fiber is 6 inches (15cm), which makes it most suitable not just for handspinning and adding to felting material, but also for ultra soft and fine straight dolls hair.

That´s all folks. Have a very good spring season and Happy Fiber Crafting!

Curly Leicester fleece update

The freshly clipped English Leicester fleeces arrived last week, a whopping 35lbs, and I have so far washed about 15lbs. The clean lots are now for sale in my etsy store and my DaWanda store. The curls are absolutely gorgeous and perfect for needle/wet felting, dolls hair, handspinning art yarns, hand dyeing and for embellishig/sewing.  :o)

Greasy Beauty

All 50 lbs of Bluefaced Leicester curly fleece have been washed and sorted, this is the last lot drying on the rack. It is reserved as I am working off a list of requests, but I have got plenty in stock left for handpainted batches to go into my online stores…

…and I am seamlessly moving on to a 55lbs bulk of raw wensleydale fleece that arrived yesterday – thank god the weather has turned much cooler today, and the first 15 pounds of wensleydale fleece are already soaking in the buckets. There will be an absolutely stunning natural black wensleydale shearling fleece, plenty of natural white shearling fleece with very good medium length curls, and a very curly natural dark grey wensleydale fleece. I am truly pleased with this year´s clip. The shearling babies are, as always, heavily in the grease, they will require a strong double wash. Please bear with me, I will be washing as fast as I can. :o)

First summer clip

I finally received my first bulk of this year´s freshly clipped Bluefaced Leicester fleeces and have been digging my hands into them to get 50lbs of raw curly wool handwashed and sorted as quickly as possible, so I will be able to smoothly move onto the new bulk of fresh wensleydale raw fleeces I am expecting in August. I am also hoping to get some premium English Leicester curly fleece, yummy stuff!  Summer time is always a very busy time for me, I never stop washing, sorting and painting fleeces. I will have to raise my fleece prices this year, I´m afraid. The BFL fleeces are now on the same price level as wensleydale fleece at the global wool auction. Its wool price has risen an absolutely incredible 700% since 2007.

Here are some photos of the first new handpainted BFL fleeces, and some more Merino and Polwarth hand painted wool rovings/combed tops that I have distributed in my etsy store, ebayUK store, and my DaWanda store :

Clouds of wool in batting

Before the next heatwave will be hitting us I thought I should do some carding and then take a break during the roasting time…. ;o). So there is now a new bulk of ultra soft 18 micron merino/silk batts and some very colourful extra soft 20 micron merino wool batts available through my etsy store and my DaWanda store.

Heatwave and hot wool

I hope that everyone made it okay through last week´s heatwave in Germany. We had a whopping 40 degrees Celsius ( = 104 degrees Fahrenhet) in the Southwest….no fun….me curling up and wanting to die….,with warmest greetings from the Sahara desert. Now the winds are blowing from the North again bringing fresh breezes from Scandinavia…..THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have therefore finished a new 2.2 lbs bulk of handpainted merino and merino/silk rovings, and also spun a new lot of merino slub yarn (thick and thin yarn) in red shades, and a very beautiful merino yarn in, yep, autumn colours. :o) These new babies are displayed in my etsy store, ebayUK store and my DaWanda store. Everyone have a very good Summer weekend with very agreeable 30 degrees ( = 86 degrees Fahrenheit)!

Curls in felt and yarn, and more rainbow

I have been wanting to do some wet felting for months and never got around it. But now I finshed a wonderful merino-silk scarf from my hand carded batts, handpainted wensleydale locks and bluefaced leicester curly fleece. I am very happy with the result. I tend to go for autumn colours when I have the choice, so here it is, my new felt scarf:

Savannah and new purples

We have had a good amount of snow and ice so far. At one point the roads were completely blocked, and I had to take my heavy postage sack and dig my way through the snow to our little post office in the next village, meaning a 1 hour walk (one way, mind you) through the forest with up to 40cm of fresh snow on the tracks…..don´t ask, I didn´t really need that extra exercise but at least all orders were dispatched on time. This is very important to me. When I personally order something through the internet I sort of want it to arrive “on the same day” because I am simply very excited. So I certainly understand when my customers want to receive their woolly goodies as fast as possible too. Luckily our roads are not blocked with snow that often during the wniter, it´s rather an exception.

Apart from restocking my standard handcarded batts and handpainted fibres I finished a new 1 lb batch of my yummy handspun and handpainted merino slub yarn in very earthy  colours, I have called it “Savannah”. It is now displayed in my ebayUK store, and one 3.6oz skein is also displayed in my DaWanda store. Also, 3 new sets of super soft (21 micron) and ultra soft (18 micron) merino/silk handcarded batts are now available through my etsy store:
