Crochet mood

And I am still crocheting away, just finished another Boho giant crochet scarf with 2 skeins of my handspun and handpainted polwarth/merino thick and thin yarn. I love this scarf very much, it is over 6 feet long without the fringes, extra soft, very squishy with lots and lots of texture. It is now displayed in my online exhibition, feel free to have a look for more details :o)

Right now I just can´t seem to get enough of my giant yarn, I am SO in the crocheting mood, so I also made a very warm and extra soft neckwarmer from 1 skein of my Jumbo handspun thick and thin merino yarn. I have included a photo of it in the Jumbo yarn descriptions of my etsy store for more information on how much can be finished with 24 yards of yarn (my Jumbo yarns measure approximately 28 yards per 100g (3.5oz) skein).

Curly Leicester fleece update

The freshly clipped English Leicester fleeces arrived last week, a whopping 35lbs, and I have so far washed about 15lbs. The clean lots are now for sale in my etsy store and my DaWanda store. The curls are absolutely gorgeous and perfect for needle/wet felting, dolls hair, handspinning art yarns, hand dyeing and for embellishig/sewing.  :o)

Fleece update

Just a quick update on what´s now available in my online stores, wensleydale fleece wise. There is still a good 25lbs of raw fleece to be washed and sorted. There will be less natural black fleece available than I thought, as the majority of the black wool has turned out to be a dark silver grey – yep, that can happen too. :o) When you have a very greasy black fleece there is no way of telling whether it will remain black/dark brown, or if it will turn into a grey beauty. The wool is first class, truly. I am very happy with the quality and the curls, most of them are just not black…..  Hopefully there will be another natural black fleece arriving later on this year with a last bulk around October, let´s wait and see. Here are my natural colour and handpainted wensleydale beauties that I have distributed in my ebayUK store (prices in GBP), my DaWanda shop (prices in Euros), and my etsy store (prices in US$):

Greasy Beauty

All 50 lbs of Bluefaced Leicester curly fleece have been washed and sorted, this is the last lot drying on the rack. It is reserved as I am working off a list of requests, but I have got plenty in stock left for handpainted batches to go into my online stores…

…and I am seamlessly moving on to a 55lbs bulk of raw wensleydale fleece that arrived yesterday – thank god the weather has turned much cooler today, and the first 15 pounds of wensleydale fleece are already soaking in the buckets. There will be an absolutely stunning natural black wensleydale shearling fleece, plenty of natural white shearling fleece with very good medium length curls, and a very curly natural dark grey wensleydale fleece. I am truly pleased with this year´s clip. The shearling babies are, as always, heavily in the grease, they will require a strong double wash. Please bear with me, I will be washing as fast as I can. :o)

Summer heat and blue yarn

Man, I am really beginning to suffer from these heatwaves that keep coming from North Africa, they are just too much for me. Yesterday we had another 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) with an unbearably thick and humid air, keeping me incapacitated and unable to turn on the stove for new dye batches…. 3 nights ago we were blessed with a very heavy thunderstorm and pouring rain, clearing the air wonderfully and leaving the remaining storm clouds hanging in the valley

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Today we will be getting around 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit), still way too hot for my taste but I started painting new rovings very early this morning and took advantage of a delightful draft of cool fresh night air moving through the house, and around noon I closed all the doors and shutters, turned on the fan and waited for cooler times…. These two fellows below are in fact doing the only thing one should do during the hot hours…taking a siesta.

So, when handpainting by a hot stove is off topic, sitting behind the spinning wheel near the fan can be a lovely option. I finished 2  skeins (8.1oz) of exquisitely soft polwarth yarn that I have called “Apparition in Blue”, it is a worsted/aran weight yarn with a total yardage of 305yds. The colours are very rich and very beautiful.  I have displayed the yarn in my etsy store  :o)

Okay, time to get the rovings out of the dyepot, they will be dried in no time in that hot summer sun, I´m sure of it. :o)

First summer clip

I finally received my first bulk of this year´s freshly clipped Bluefaced Leicester fleeces and have been digging my hands into them to get 50lbs of raw curly wool handwashed and sorted as quickly as possible, so I will be able to smoothly move onto the new bulk of fresh wensleydale raw fleeces I am expecting in August. I am also hoping to get some premium English Leicester curly fleece, yummy stuff!  Summer time is always a very busy time for me, I never stop washing, sorting and painting fleeces. I will have to raise my fleece prices this year, I´m afraid. The BFL fleeces are now on the same price level as wensleydale fleece at the global wool auction. Its wool price has risen an absolutely incredible 700% since 2007.

Here are some photos of the first new handpainted BFL fleeces, and some more Merino and Polwarth hand painted wool rovings/combed tops that I have distributed in my etsy store, ebayUK store, and my DaWanda store :

Clouds of wool in batting

Before the next heatwave will be hitting us I thought I should do some carding and then take a break during the roasting time…. ;o). So there is now a new bulk of ultra soft 18 micron merino/silk batts and some very colourful extra soft 20 micron merino wool batts available through my etsy store and my DaWanda store.

Heatwave and hot wool

I hope that everyone made it okay through last week´s heatwave in Germany. We had a whopping 40 degrees Celsius ( = 104 degrees Fahrenhet) in the Southwest….no fun….me curling up and wanting to die….,with warmest greetings from the Sahara desert. Now the winds are blowing from the North again bringing fresh breezes from Scandinavia…..THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have therefore finished a new 2.2 lbs bulk of handpainted merino and merino/silk rovings, and also spun a new lot of merino slub yarn (thick and thin yarn) in red shades, and a very beautiful merino yarn in, yep, autumn colours. :o) These new babies are displayed in my etsy store, ebayUK store and my DaWanda store. Everyone have a very good Summer weekend with very agreeable 30 degrees ( = 86 degrees Fahrenheit)!

Fresh colours and fibres, and Monster High dolls

I am so waiting for spring to arrive, I am desperate for warm sunshine and blue sky, sick of snow, ice and mud. It may not take long anymore now, the birds are already in spring mode, their chirping contests are absolutely fabulous, I love when they have a party in the forest and in the open fields. During the month of February I have been restocking my handpainted and handspun merino slub yarns, batts and rovings. I have also added new lots of handpainted and commercially dyed merino rovings in gorgeous and vibrant colours, handpainted british bluefaced leicester and wensleydale fleece, plus a new merino lace and a 70-15-15 wool-silk-bamboo yarn that I have called “Thuja” + “Embers”. As always these yarns and fibre babies can be found in my etsy store and ebayUK store.

In this blog I would also like to introduce Sindy, a dollmaker from Sweden, who works with funky and very beautiful Monster High Dolls. For the dolls hair she often uses my curly wensleydale fleeces, bluefaced leicester fleece, single colour merino and rainbow merino wool rovings to create fantastic hairstyles, here are some of her sweeties:

The fibers and fleeces are available through my ebayUK store and my etsy store.

Everyone have a very good weekend, and HAPPY FIBRE CRAFTING! :o)
