Autumn fleeces

Here comes my new batch of beautifully soft and scrumptous hand painted Bluefaced Leicester lambswool fleece with plenty of lovely curls! This fleece is my personal favourite, perfect for people with sensitive skin, be it for nuno felting, needle felting, wild dolls hair, handspinning, sewing or embellishing, it can be used for a wide range of woolly projects. :o) The fleeces can be found in my etsy store, and also on DaWanda.

I am currently sorting a new award winning Wensleydale fleece in natural black, a stunning fleece indeed.  When you get a raw black fleece you never know if it remains black once it has been washed, or if it will turn dark grey, dark brown, or, god forbid, even light grey….I have seen it all before…. No, this baby has remained very black with some silver streaks in it and beautiful light brown tips. Just what I wanted, yay! The first 10 bags are already displayed on etsy and on DaWanda. There are long locks of up to 7 inches in length, and a shorter version of around 4-5 inches:

That´s all for now. Everyone, have a wonderful autumn weekend!

Autumn impressions

The month of November is starting on a high note, I love it! As the days will most certainly become darker and duller quite soon let´s take in all the splendour of the autumn season, enjoy the magnificient colours of mother nature and take long walks out into the fields and forests. It´s absolutely worth it!

They weigh a whopping 255g (9oz) per bag and are perfect for felting projects, handspinning and dolls hair – very handy for beginners in felting and spinning as well. The fibre bags are displayed in my etsy store

Greasy Beauty

All 50 lbs of Bluefaced Leicester curly fleece have been washed and sorted, this is the last lot drying on the rack. It is reserved as I am working off a list of requests, but I have got plenty in stock left for handpainted batches to go into my online stores…

…and I am seamlessly moving on to a 55lbs bulk of raw wensleydale fleece that arrived yesterday – thank god the weather has turned much cooler today, and the first 15 pounds of wensleydale fleece are already soaking in the buckets. There will be an absolutely stunning natural black wensleydale shearling fleece, plenty of natural white shearling fleece with very good medium length curls, and a very curly natural dark grey wensleydale fleece. I am truly pleased with this year´s clip. The shearling babies are, as always, heavily in the grease, they will require a strong double wash. Please bear with me, I will be washing as fast as I can. :o)

First summer clip

I finally received my first bulk of this year´s freshly clipped Bluefaced Leicester fleeces and have been digging my hands into them to get 50lbs of raw curly wool handwashed and sorted as quickly as possible, so I will be able to smoothly move onto the new bulk of fresh wensleydale raw fleeces I am expecting in August. I am also hoping to get some premium English Leicester curly fleece, yummy stuff!  Summer time is always a very busy time for me, I never stop washing, sorting and painting fleeces. I will have to raise my fleece prices this year, I´m afraid. The BFL fleeces are now on the same price level as wensleydale fleece at the global wool auction. Its wool price has risen an absolutely incredible 700% since 2007.

Here are some photos of the first new handpainted BFL fleeces, and some more Merino and Polwarth hand painted wool rovings/combed tops that I have distributed in my etsy store, ebayUK store, and my DaWanda store :

It’s fleece time again :o)

Freshly clipped fleeces have been arriving on a weekly basis since my last blog,  and they all needed washing and sorting, but I am half way through the bulk,  I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel :o) So far I have got gorgeously soft British Bluefaced Leicester, beautiful Bluefaced Leicester/Kerry Hill cross with great sheen, and some very high quality English Leicester curly fleece (1 champion with curls of up to 35cm = 14 inch!!!!!, plus  1 very clean curly fleece beauty from a 2 year old ewe).

Some of the fleece wool I have already handpainted for all who want to use the curls for felting, embellishment, dollshair, and handspinning – they are displayed in my etsy store.  However, not all of these fleeces are suitable for handspinning, the fleece base may be too dense, but I have mentioned that in each item description.  Here are my natural colour and handpainted fleece beauties:

Freshly clipped British wensleydale fleece should be back in stock around mid/end September.

Not all of my washed undyed fleeces are regularly listed in my online stores, as there is only a limitied quantity available each year, and I keep a waiting list once the raw fleeces have been inspected.  Inquiries are welcome through my website Needlework’s Pleasure.

Everyone have a very fine weekend and HAPPY FIBER CRAFTING :o)
